The GNOME Gmail Notifier constantly and unobtrusively checks the status of your Gmail and Google Apps Mail accounts for new messages and notifies you as new mail arrives. Just set the Notifier to check the accounts you wish to have inbox notifications for and it does all the work, informing you of new message details as they arrive.
The GNOME Gmail Notifier was actively maintained until I started graduate school. Now, I simply don’t have the time to update it.
The following free software packages are required in order to use the GNOME Gmail Notifier. Basically, if you have a recent GNU/Linux distribution running the GNOME desktop, you’re probably running way more recent packages than required. :)
